I made my debut as a professional speaker in 2016 at the annual Limmud Conference (Limmud is the Hebrew word for learning) – a three day gathering of international and local speakers from all worlds and walks of life. I like it to think of it as Jewish Ted Talks. I spoke for a full hour to a packed room and a standing ovation.
I am a stutterer. I am a 15 years recovered crystal meth addict and I have been HIV+ for 19 years. I was also a victim of bullying and homophobia and had a very difficult relationship with my late father. I lived in the US for seven years. When my life was at its most dire and desperate, I made a choice to come back to South Africa fifteen years ago to reclaim my life, reboot my career and became more successful than ever.
My story is one of facing, overcoming and living with challenges, and beating the odds. It is important for me to share these stories and to inspire others who might be encountering difficulties in life and who need a source of strength and encouragement to draw from. Hence my mantra: Live to Inspire.
